Meet Alyssa: Michigan native, winner of the 2020 Pappoutsakis competition, and soon to be fellow with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago! But besides being an incredible flutist, Alyssa is simply an all around wonderful human. Her session was full of laughs, hair flips in the hope of keeping her hair out of her face from the strong Boston winds, and posing like nobodies business.
Keep reading to learn more about Alyssa, what her photoshoot experience was like, and see pictures of her dress and the flowers of the Boston Public Garden match PERFECTLY!
1). Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m currently a flutist studying in Boston, originally from metro-Detroit, Michigan. I attended Oakland University in Michigan for my undergraduate degree in music, and attended Boston University for my Master's degree. I’m excited to be moving to Chicago this fall as a fellow with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago!
2). What are your goals right now as an emerging artist?
As an emerging artist, some of my main goals are to continue to strengthen my knowledge of the orchestral performance world, and also to learn more productive ways that orchestras today can reach out to and provide experiences for younger musicians, especially those that do not have access to the arts in or around their school districts.
3). Were you nervous for your session?
I had never met Taylor in person before my session, so I was a little nervous. Upon meeting up, she was instantly so friendly and welcoming, I forgot I was even feeling nervous before we met!
4). What was it like working with Taylor?
Taylor is such a warm, down to earth person. The shoot felt very natural, and she never asked me to do any awkward and uncomfortable poses, but instead kept it very simple. As a result, I love how calm, happy, and carefree I look in my photos!
5). What do you plan on using your photos for?
I will be using my photos for social media, as well as on my professional website and any future performer biographies.
